PMC donates £1,000 to Banbury-based Adoption UK to help with Online Community Development project

PMC donates £1,000 to Banbury-based Adoption UK to help with Online Community Development projectAbingdon, Oxford, UK –- 25 June 2009 –- Abingdon-based retail systems experts, PMC, has today announced a further donation of £1,000 for its chosen charity Banbury-based Adoption UK, to help with the continuing development of their Online Community web site.

This latest donation follows PMC’s £5,000 sponsorship package in June 2008, which Adoption UK used to update its web site www.adoptionuk.org and to take advantage of the latest web and communications technology.

Jonathan Pearce, director Adoption UK said: “We are grateful to PMC for their continued generosity and support. We are using their combined donations towards the cost of building our new web site, training our staff in its use and management, data input and content migration. The help of supporters such as PMC is invaluable in making our Online Community an important support service and communications network for prospective adopters and adoptive parents.”

Paul Mason, CEO, PMC stated: “Too often organisations direct sponsorship at the most newsworthy rather than the most worthy. I am a firm believer in providing ‘sponsorship that counts’ that’s why PMC helps Adoption UK with both financial and other support. Supporting an organisation that helps make adoptions work and promotes loving and supportive relationships between children and their adoptive families, is one of the most important sponsorship commitments we could make. As an adoptive parent myself, I know that Adoption UK’s work makes a real difference.”

Adoption UK Online Community redevelopment

As well as bringing the technology up-to-date, and making the site easier to use, Adoption UK intends to update or add the following features to its web site:
• Blogs: to allow members to run their own diaries
• ‘Children Who Wait’ Online: a separate site with its own domain
• Online Shop: a well-designed, easier to use shop
• RSS Feeds: to keep people in touch with site updates
• Google Analytics: to improve understanding of how people use the site
• Audio downloads: users download audio files (therapists speaking)
• Podcasts and videos: to highlight their work and the adoption experience
• Friendly URLs: for easier site navigation.

Mason confirmed: “We are particularly pleased to help Adoption UK develop key areas of their Online Community, such as ‘Children Who Wait’ Online. This important service features photographs and profiles of children looking for adoptive families, with e-mail links to social workers.”

Pearce stated: “It is important that Adoption UK provides online support for adopters and prospective adopters in new and exciting ways. Currently, around 15,000 people are registered to use our message boards and other interactive services. It’s our goal to lead the way in online adoption support and only continuing, valuable backing from supporters like PMC help make that possible.”

"During the last few months many retailers have adopted the ‘back-to-business’ mantra. This does not mean that everything in the garden is rosy. Far from it. Doubtless this will be a slow recovery that’s why the phrase ‘cautious optimism’ is most appropriate." Huw Thomas, COO, PMC
