PMC leads the way with internships in India
Abingdon, Oxfordshire, UK - - The PMC-I internship programme uniquely emphasises on-the-job training by giving interns experience working on real-world projects. They also gain an opportunity to meet customers, create a network of contacts and make that all-important first career step.
Paul Mason, CEO, PMC explains: “Increasingly, graduates face a ‘Catch-22 scenario’ created because companies want to hire experienced individuals. Recent graduates cannot find jobs because they lack experience but then they cannot gain experience unless they find a job, and there’s the catch. Perhaps not as complex as the self-contradictory, circular logic used in Joseph Heller’s novel, but a ‘no-win situation’ nonetheless.”
“The solution is to join a graduate internship programme. However, in many companies, interns find the experience less than fulfilling. This is because they are given ‘dummy’ projects to work on and have little or no customer contact. With the PMC-I programme we take a different approach.”
Enabling students to make an important contribution
Jaymin Shah, Head of Support and Development at PMC-I states: “Student interns are also a great way to promote a company on-campus. Students and colleges alike compliment the PMC-I programme because our interns do real work on ‘live ‘projects. At PMC-I they gain hands-on experience, learn to understand business and develop skills relevant to their future careers.”
“Interns have a vitality and energy, coupled with a burning desire to prove their worth. These are powerful qualities for a company to harness. Investing time and energy in training these individuals is important as it can help you find and train motivated people to fill immediate or long-term staff needs. It is truly a company investing in its own future.”
Learning quickly in a working environment
With experience of the PMC-I internship, project trainee Nida Hasan says: “A PMC-I internship gives you a lead over your fellow students. At PMC-I you do real work and achieve real results for the company. You also gain a valuable chance to observe, absorb and develop relevant skills. You feel involved because you can make a real contribution to the company’s services and reputation and make an impressive addition to your curriculum vitae. You interact with many people and create a network of successful and driven individuals. And many of them could make an important appearance later in your life.”
Another advantage of an internship programme is both parties (company and intern) gain more understanding of each other. When a company hires from its internship programme they have first-hand experience of the individuals. They also know far more about them than any information an interview can provide.
Asim Banerjee, Faculty DA-IICT, Gandhinagar, India, states: “There are critical reasons that contribute to the success of any internship that is a part of an academic curriculum. First, the aptitude and attitude of the interns that enables them produce useful work for an organisation during their internship period. Second, how seriously the organisation takes its internship programme by assigning meaningful work to interns. Finally, the drive for the institution or university to meet the objectives of the internship programme in its academic curriculum. We, at DAIICT, are pleased the internship of our students at PMC-I meets all these factors. This, we believe, has contributed greatly to creating a positive programme. We look forward to having a long and mutually fruitful relationship with PMC-I.”
Mason closes: “Interns at PMC-I work on live projects, they use advanced tools and technologies, and they gain ‘real-world’ retail industry knowledge. Our open work environment and PMC-I culture ensures they feel like a member of the PMC-I ‘family’. Unlike many other internships the PMC-I programme delivers a ‘win-win situation’ all-round.”

“With a project of this scale to be delivered within such an aggressive timescale, getting the right skills and expertise on board quickly was essential. We mobilised a team around a large number of BrightHouse personnel and then went outside the organisation to find the skills we lacked. PMC provided a crucial skill we needed – they are experts, and gave us a real focus on testing – and they played a key role in helping us achieve our goals.” Simon Mouncer, Head of Business Change and IT at BrightHouse.
