PMC-I enters Team in Vadodara Marathon

PMC-I enters Team in Vadodara MarathonAbingdon, Oxford, UK / Vadodara, Gujarat, India --On 22 November 2009 a team from PMC-I will take part in the Vadodara marathon running 21.5 kilometres to raise funds for the city’s traffic education trust. The team includes management, software developers and PMC’s UK Chief Operating Officer, Huw Thomas. “As I’m visiting our office in Vadodara when the marathon takes place I want to join the PMC-I team and support the city,” states Thomas.

UK retail systems experts PMC launched its India-based subsidiary, PMC India Private Limited (PMC-I) in Vadadora, India, in May 2008. PMC-I offers UK and India-based retailers an IT service designed to drive out the problems and inefficiencies of traditional offshore solutions and add retail industry specialisation to provide consulting, software support and development.

Paul Mason, CEO, PMC states: “I believe that being a responsible company means supporting the communities in which we operate. Currently, in the UK PMC supports child-adoption charity Adoption UK and in India PMC-I supports the Akshar Trust in Vadodara. Our colleagues in PMC-I share the UK team’s commitment to support the community local to our office in Vadodara. I hope they have a great time and enjoy the event.”
The joint aim of the event is to bring Vadodara’s citizens and businesses together uniting their efforts for a common cause and to make everyone aware of important social issues. Organised under public-private partnership, the marathon will raise funds for the Vadodara Traffic Education Trust (VTET) formed in 2008 to solve the city's traffic problems.

VTET has an ongoing goal to make the lives of all Vadodara’s residents safer and easier. This includes raising awareness of traffic rules and regulations among the public and tackling the potential menace of cattle on increasingly busy roads. VTET is also involved in actively improving liaison between the various agencies involved in providing public utilities and amenities to ensure effectively planned programmes.

Xavier Johnson, Human Resources Manager at PMC-I states: “I believe it’s important that businesses in Vadodara support the city’s social causes. We have created a powerful and supportive team attitude within PMC-I built around our strong company culture. That approach extends towards engaging in supporting activities such as the Vadodara marathon.”

The PMC-I team along with other businessmen, sports personalities, advocates, doctors, academics, police, politicians and disabled runners will run for 21.5 kilometres starting and finishing from Navlakhi Ground in the city. The race director is Baptist D'Souza, who organised the marathon in Pune, and local organisers expect over 50,000 people to take part.

“This will be a grand event and we expect every citizen to come forward and participate," said Nilesh Shukla, chairman, (public relations), Vadodara Marathon, 2009. "This marathon is a true ‘citizens' initiative’ and we want to make it an annual event.”

Testing should not be seen as policing. It’s a positive addition to the process, the problem is that neither vendors nor retailers have the bandwidth or skill set to test systems adequately or emulate the retailer’s live environments.
