Business Analysis

understand the 'as is' and document the 'to be'

With any systems implementation or any proposed change to an existing system or process, it's vital to understand the 'as is' of the retail operation or business process. This will enable you to baseline your assumptions, and fix the correct start point. Sometimes it's hard to understand the reality of where you are because initial specifications and processes are adapted and adjusted. That's why it's important to re-assess the baseline before you start.

Once you understand the way your operation works, you move forward by making sure you understand how you want it to work in the future. That includes understanding the steps you need to take and who the change will impact. PMC can ensure you have a robust specification for technology and software so it's developed in line with how you want the processes to run.

It's also important to understand the 'to be' for the technology, software and process changes. PMC can help you assess the impact of change on the people that are going to perform it, then analyse and define the business change and training requirements needed to run the system in the new environment.

With retail business analysis there are two issues to consider. One is resource availability - retailers 'run lean' and often the resource is not available. Another is closeness - someone too close to the process will give the answer you want rather than the answer you need. PMC can give an independent view to ensure you start from the right place within a retail context.
